Phillies add three players to the roster

It is reported that the Phillies selected center fielder Quintin Berry, left-hander Yohan Flande and right-hander Jesus Sanchez and add them to the 40-man roster. Now the team has 30 players. This movement can ensure that Berry, Flande and Sanchez won't be picked up by another team during December's Rule 5 Draft.

Berry was the fifth-round Draft pick in 2006 in four Minor League seasons and has 173 stolen bases in phillies jersey. Flande split the season between Class A Clearwater and Reading. Sanchez was acquired from the Yankees in exchange of Bobby Abreu to New York in 2006.

Dodgers is busy doing research into free-agent list

According to the report, the National League West champions have to focus on starting pitching when open bidding on free agents begins on Friday. After leading the league last season and tying for second in starters' ERA, the Dodgers could lose at least three members of their season and free agents Randy Wolf, Vicente Padilla and Jon Garland.

Los Angeles Dodgers should be able to achieve a starter or two in the free-agent market. The team already have been linked to John Smoltz, who has won 213 games in the dodgers jersey in his lifetime. The Dodgers also have a vacancy at second base, and they don't decide to retain free agent Orlando Hudson. Mark DeRosa, Placido Polanco and Felipe Lopez are among the free-agent list that the dodgers could be considering.

Crosby carries Olympic torch in Nova Scotia

Yesterday thousands of people got together in a downtown street in Halifax to watch Pittsburgh Penguins captain and Nova Scotia native Sidney Crosby carry the Olympic torch. Crosby wore an official torchbearer's uniform (not pittsburgh penguins jersey), which features a green-and-blue Vancouver Olympics logo on one side. He ran about 300 yards, carrying the torch in his right hand before passing the torch to snowboarder Sarah Conrad.

Crosby is one of 12,000 torchbearers who will carry the flame across Canada which began in Victoria last month. The relay will reach every Canadian province and territory leading up to the Winter Games in Vancouver in February. He flew to Ottawa for the game against the Senators last night.

Blackhawks continue to sign three super players

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the Blackhawks decide to sign Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith to contract extensions. It reports the signings of the forwards are expected in the next few days. Blackhawks are said to be near an agreement with defenseman Duncan Keith, and the team could announce all three signings possibly on Tuesday.

"Our goal like I've said from the beginning is to keep the core of our team together, and they're core players," General Manager Stan Bowman said before the season. "That's the strength and the way you have to do it in the game today. Evaluate your players, determine who the core players are and keep that group together and fill in around them." It is worth for fans putting on chicago blackhawks jerseys to cheer for these players.

Brookls Orpik is sidelined for two weeks

It is announced on Thursday that Penguins' defenseman Brooks Orpik will be out of the lineup for the next two weeks because of a lower-body injury. "He's got a two-week injury, lower body," head coach Dan Bylsma said. "We were excited that he was doing better than we feared. He's doing well. We got some good news and he'll hopefully be around 14 days." Orpik left the game on Tuesday night in Boston in the first period after falling into the boards and did not come back to the game. Now the Penguins have lost a player in each of their past three games, and four in the last two weeks.

Forward Tyler Kennedy left after team warm-ups at Los Angeles on Nov. 5 and has been out ever since. Then the team lost defenseman Kris Letang after he suffered a shoulder pain on Nov. 7 at San Jose. And only three days later, the team is marching without Orpik. It is regrettable for fans not to see them playing on the ice in the penguins jerseys.
